Report: Anthony didn't want JR Smith to join team

Sporting News just posted an article claiming that Carmelo Anthony didn't want to sign JR Smith after he returned from China. This is interesting since Smith and Anthony were teammates, and publicly Anthony has said that he is happy about Smith joining the team. But according to the article, Anthony was hurt by the signing that was spearheaded by the Knicks' personnel director, Mark Warkentien, who was the Nuggets GM when they first acquired Smith.

Since coming to the Knicks', Smith has looked average off the bench, shooting poorly and taking bad looks. But that hasn't stopped coach Mike D'Antoni from giving him generous minutes. It's doubtful that Anthony or the team will admit these rumors are true. But it will be interesting to see how they affect the team chemistry and Anthony's role on the team as a leader.
